Thermal Gas systems is a manufacturer of refrigerant leak detection systems. They’ve been in business for over thirty years. They are a privately held company with expertise in refrigerant monitoring. Their systems are built to order, assembled and calibrated at the factory, then disassembled and shipped. When a system ships to a customer it can be wired, installed and calibrated in a very short amount of time (since it has already been tested and calibrated).
Our competitors who sell refrigerant monitoring systems do not do pre-assemble or pre-test their systems. Therefore when the system ships to the customer, the customer has to pay for additional service to have the system assembled, tested and then calibrated.
Thermal Gas Systems offers two technologies, CMOS, Ceramic Metal Oxide Sensors which are basic, compliance level sensors that meet ASHRAE standards. They use older technology and are reasonably reliable, but they need more frequent calibration, and more frequent maintenance, than other types of technologies. CMOS- based systems are often sold as part of a chiller to meet ASHRAE standards – they work ok for a few years, then typically start to drift and become expensive to maintain.
Thermal Gas also manufactures systems based on photo acoustic infra-red (PIR) sensor technology. PIR is much more reliable than CMOS, has a lower cost of ownership because of the sensor life, and is virtually drift free (no false alarms) PIR has much lower detection limits than CMOS – all the way down to 1ppm for many refrigerant gases PIR sensor only need an annual bump test CMOS sensors need bi-annual or quarterly calibration.
