Background

In 2017, E.ON, the international energy supplier, forged a lasting partnership with Dow Benelux to construct, possess, and manage a sizable gas-fired boiler plant catering to Dow’s largest production facility in Europe, situated in Terneuzen, the Netherlands. Within this facility, Dow engages in the production of chemical intermediates that undergo further processing for a diverse range of commercial and industrial applications, including packaging, coatings, and foams. E.ON Power Plants Belgium seamlessly integrated a new boiler plant into the pre-existing steam distribution grid at the Dow Benelux site in Terneuzen. The boiler boasts dual-fuel capabilities, allowing operation with varying mixtures of natural gas, hydrogen (up to 45%), and the by-product fuel gas from the naphtha crackers. Meticulously designed to meet stringent requirements for load gradients, steam pressure tolerance, and availability, the boiler plant and its essential components ensure optimal performance.
